A film that needed a crew of thirty, a location, and a six-figure budget can now be made by three people and a GenAI pipeline. That's not a prediction — it's shipping in Cairo right now, in commercials, music videos and shorts.
The craft question is settled enough: AI filmmaking works. The unsettled questions are the ones that decide whether anyone builds a career on it. Who gets credited when the model generated the shot? Who owns a film whose visuals came out of a system trained on other people's work? What does a director charge when the client knows the render cost nothing? Which roles on a crew survive this, and which ones quietly disappeared last year? And what does a festival do with a submission nobody can prove authorship of?
Studios are selling AI work they may not legally own. Creators are being quoted against output built partly from their own portfolios. Everyone is shipping anyway.
We've put people on stage with opposing interests rather than a shared opinion — someone selling GenAI film work to brands, someone whose craft it's replacing, and someone who has to write the line into a real contract. You'll leave knowing what's defensible today, what isn't, and what to charge.
